This search tab allows you to search by:-
Type in the your search string and then click on the relevant button to start the search
- e.g. Type in Marsden then click on Author
- Your results will appear towards the bottom of the screen
- These results can be resorted and multi-selected for viewing and/or printing
Again, if you end up with a big list of resoruces on the screen you’ll probably want to know more about Using the Results Screen (Resource Lists)

- What is Title?
- Do all books have a Title?
- What about Videos, Kits, CDs, Websites, Magazines, Newspapers, Games, etc?
- What is the Title of this book? (With a book in hand…)
- Can a book have more than one Title?
- What is a Sub-Title? (Try to find a book with a sub-title… Teacher Reference is an easy place to find an example)
- Is this a good Title for this book? Why?
- If you wrote this book, would you give it a different Title? Why?
- What is the difference between a Begins with and a Contains search?
- How would you find this resource using a Title Begins with search?
- How could you find this resource with a Title Contains search?
- How do you do a Begins with / Contains search using the computer?
- What about in the Junior Catalogue search (if you have it installed!)
- What about in the Web Catalogue?
- Do you think you could show Mum and Dad how to look up some Titles in the Web Catalogue from home if they would like to see if we have a book?
Doing a Title Begins with Search…
- Go into the Catalogue (CMEPlus).
- Click on the Title and Other Searches tab.
- Type in a few letters of the Title you are looking for.
- Click the Title Begins button.
Play around with the results until you end up printing a list of the results, looking at the details screen to see if the item is available or not.
Doing a Title Contains Search…
- Go into the Catalogue (CMEPlus).
- Click on the Title and Other Searches tab.
- Type in a few letters of a word you think is in the Title of the item you want to find.
- Click the Title Contains button.
- Again, play around with the results until you end up printing a list of the results, or looking at the details screen to see if the item is available or not.
- Notice there will be some strange entries if you used a few letters that could be the start of a word or in the middle of a bigger word!

- Can resources that are not books have Authors?
- Can an item have more than one Author?
- What if a book has lots of Authors and the Publishers (what is a Publisher?) couldn’t be bothered printing all the names on the item? Explain “et al.”
- Who is the Author of this book?
- How might we look up this book in the Catalogue by using the Author search?
- Why might there be more than one Author in the Catalogue that could be the person we are looking for? (Data inconsistencies… Full names vs Initials)
- Can you find it in the Junior Catalogue? (If installed)
- Can you find it in your Web Catalogue? (If installed)
- Do you have a favourite Author?
- Have you looked up the Catalogue to see if we have all the books by that Author?
- How could we find out more about the Author?
- When and where they were born?
- Where did they grow up?
- Did they have fun when they were a kid?
- What do they do for a job when they are not writing books?
- Why did they write this book?
- How old was the Author when they wrote the book?
- How long did it take to write this book?
- How long would it take for us to make up this story or read enough other books to know enough about this topic to be able to write a book like this?

- Type in a few letters of the Authors surname.
- Click the Author button.

Doing a Classification Number Search (Dewey)…
- Go into the Catalogue (CMEPlus).
- Click on the Title and Other Searches tab.
- Type in a few numbers of the Classification Number you have in mind.
- Click the Classn. No. button to start the search.
A list of resources that start with the numbers you searched for are displayed in Call No. order… which is basically a shelf list of the resources. It is interesting to scroll down and watch the subject of the resources change as the Classification numbers change… this can be an interesting revelation for students and staff alike.

- Type in a few letters of the Keyword you would like to find items from.
- Click the Keyword button.
- Click one of the Keyword in the list that appears (or hold down Ctrl and click several in the list) then click OK.

- Type in a few letters of the what you think will be in the Notes.
- Click the Notes button.
- Click one of the Notes in the list that appears (or hold down Ctrl and click several in the list) then click OK.

Searching for New Resources:
To view a list of newly added or edited resources click on the New Resources button and set the period of time applicable ie the last 30 days.
- Maximum range is 999 days.
- Could get the same results via a Multi-field or Range search.
